  Unit A:  Getting Ready

 This unit will help you understand what an essay is and how to begin writing.  The lessons in this unit will give you information about::
  • the steps in the writing process
  • the different parts of an essay
  • three different techniques often used by writers to get ideas for writing
  Unit B:  Building a Plan This unit will give you instructions on how to:
  • write a thesis statement that will guide the content of your essay
  • create an outline for your essay
  Unit C:  Drafting the Essay The lessons in this unit will help you to actually write the paragraphs in your essay.  You will learn how to write:
  • an introduction
  • body paragraphs
  • a conclusion
  Unit D:  Revising and Editing Now that you have finished drafting your essay, you need to look at your essay again to see where it can be improved.  This step is called revising and editing.  In this unit, you will choose three modules.  Your tutor may suggest modules that he/she thinks will help you most. 
 Unit E:  The Final Draft This unit will review some of the requirements for turning in the final draft and help prepare you to take an essay exam.  In addition, you will have the opportunity to evaluate the quality of your essay with a tutor.
